Ellen Frankel to co-lead workshop at Renfrew Center Conference in November 2006
Ellen Frankel, author of Beyond Measure: A Memoir About Short Stature and Inner Growth, will co-lead a workshop on the treatment of compulsive eating during the 16th annual Renfrew Cernter Foundation Conference for Professionals in Philadelphia, PA Nov. 9-12, 2006.
Ellen and her sister (and fellow licensed clinical social worker) Judith Matz will present "Beyond A Shadow of a Diet: The Treatment of Compulsive Eating" from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9. The workshop is based on the nondiet/Health At Every Size-based approach outlined in their book Beyond A Shadow of a Diet. They have also written a self-help book, The Diet Survivor's Handbook, based on the same principles.
The conference brochure says of their workshop:
Join us for in-deoth discussion and exploration of the range of issues that arise in this rewarding and challenging work. Topics will include exploring clinicians' attitudes toward weight, integrating the Health At Every Size paradigm, engaging clients who are resistant to giving up dieting, discussing clinical material related to clients implementing the non-diet approach, and examining countertransference issues related to body size.
The conference is being held at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott. The Renfrew Center was founded in 1985 in Philadelphia as the first free-standing residential treatment facility in the U.S. dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders. They currently provide residential and outpatient services in Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr, PA, Coconut Creek, FL, Ridgewood, NJ, New York City, NY, and Wilton, CT.
Ellen's memoir about size acceptance, stature, and personal growth will be published by Pearlsong Press in September 2006.
